Fastest Go-Kart 2018 Reviews

The Trail Master XRX 300cc Gas Electric Start Go Kart

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Top speed: 50 mph

Price: $4,447.00

Let’s get this right out the gate: The Trail Master XRX is fast. The go-kart can reach up to 50 miles per hour and, as a 300CC, it has the surging power that all speedsters seek. It is gas powered with an electric starter and built for rough terrain.

It also features a large two-seater and designed to handle a passenger load of two adult-sized individuals or a maximum weight of 500 pounds. So not only will you be able to reach speeds akin to your local highway, but you will also have plenty of room to bring a friend along to enjoy the fun.

You’ll also be impressed by the additional features on the go kart:

  • Electronic signals. The go-kart comes with turn signals, tail lights, and LED powered headlights and a horn.
  • The four-wheel suspension and aluminum wheels work to improve traction on even loose terrain.
  • Track your speed. The digital speedometer and odometer can help you monitor your acceleration.
  • Great torque. The CVT clutch is automatic and provides robust torque, which helps the go-kart reach its remarkable top speed of 50 mph.

The Trail Master XRX is tougher than most go-karts in its price range, can accelerate quickly and withstand a bumpy ride, but to do so; it also requires an experienced driver. The go-kart is for intermediate-level drivers that can match its power and speed with superior driving acumen.

The Coleman Powersports 196cc KT196 Off-Road Go Kart

Rating: 5 out of 5

Top speed: 31 mph

Price: $1,538.93

The Coleman KT196 is an affordable, reliable go-kart that is fun for the whole family. Teenagers aged 13 and up can drive the vehicle, which has something for everyone:

  • Two-seat cabin for yourself and a guest
  • Passenger weight capacity of 400 pounds
  • A powerful 196cc engine with 6.5 horsepower
  • Secure safety in the padded roll cage

With a simple pull-start, the 196cc go kart engine can be activated and taken to the trails. The steering wheel connects to a rack and pinion steering which can provide sturdy, stable turning and handles well when things speed up.

The CVT clutch compliments the torque, which helps to get the kart up to its top speed of 31 miles per hour. And the hydraulic brakes work well to slow the kart down.

The go-kart has a durable frame, which is light enough to keep its speed going, but also contains firm padding for the roll cage. And the toughness doesn’t stop there: the tires, roll cage and carrying ability of 400 lbs all work together to protect the rider and passenger.

The Coleman KT196 gets a 5 out of 5 on our scale due to its affordability, 196cc engine, and safety features.

The Trailmaster XRX-R Mid-size 200cc Kids Go Kart

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Top speed: 30 miles per hour

Price: $1,950.00

The Trailmaster XRX-R is a great go kart for kids aged 8 to 14, with a steel frame to ensure protection, which is built safe for any young person. The go-kart frame wraps in a complete upper roll cage, heavy duty side rails, and an enclosed bottom pan.

Now that safety is out of the way, the go-kart contains a 4-stroke, single cylinder 200cc engine that can reach a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour. It also has a climbing ability of about 12 degrees and rear suspension to help with traction.

The two-seater Trailmaster XRX-R can support up to 400 pounds of passenger weight, which should provide your child and friends comfortable accommodations and room to grow. The seats have a height of 10.2 inches for taller riders, with a rear rack for light storage.

The Trailmaster XRX-R earns 4.5 out of 5 stars due to its higher suspension, which can inhibit speed.

The TAO TAO 110cc ATK 125A

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Top speed: 25 miles per hour

Price: $1,474.35

If you are not sure where to start with your go-kart venture, yet want a smooth entry that doesn’t sacrifice speed, I can vouch that the TAO TAO ATK 125A is a vehicle you should consider. I used to own one of these go karts.

I highly recommend it for go-kart newcomers. The maximum loading weight of the go-kart is 220 pounds. Its straightforward design is great for young drivers or friends to enjoy themselves without being too fast to cause concern. The comprehensive features place a focus on the basics of a 2-seater go kart, such as:

  • Semi-automatic transmission for reasonable power
  • Electric starter and engine kill switch
  • Strong 12-volt battery for prolonged vehicle life
  • Four stroke, 110cc engine which is the right balance of power without being too fast

The tires, front and rear suspensions are all 14.15 inches. This level means that this go kart is not the ideal choice for off-road cruising. The TAO TAO is better suited for flat surface rides or very basic dirt trails. In sum, the go-kart hugs the ground and can effortlessly accelerate into its 25 miles per hour top speed with little difficulty.

KANDI 110cc 2-seat Go Kart (KD-110GKG-2)

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Top speed: 25 miles per hour

Price: $1,799.91

For those unfamiliar with motorsports and terrain vehicles, the idea of combining children and speed may make some fearful, but the best go karts brands know how to blend safety with performance.  The Kandi Go Kart is a prime example; this 110cc, single cylinder engine vehicle can reach a max speed of 25 miles per hour, yet has all of the modern safety conventions of the best go karts, such as:

  • Both remote starter and kill switch
  • Seatbelts for both passengers
  • Automatic transmission
  • Responsive disc brakes
  • Headlights, turn signals and brake lights
  • Electric powered 12-volt battery for a strong charge

Still not convinced the Kandi is a safe bet for an adolescent? The go-kart has a lower suspension, which can help speed, but it also weighs 308 pounds (with a carrying load of 331 lbs.) to keep the vehicle stable and grounded.

The only con of the Kandi is that it is a little more expensive than other 2-seater go karts in its price range, and also has a lower cc leveled engine when considering all of its speed-influencing features. It’s also heavier than its competitors. This weight earns the go-kart 3 out of 5 stars.

How to Buy A Fast Go KartYour Buying Guide

While going fast can be fun, you should consider more than just your need for speed when buying a vehicle for yourself, family or a friend. There are some essential characteristics to keep in mind when analyzing your potential go-kart, all of which can have an impact on how fast it can or cannot go. Here’s a list for you to consider:

Safety First

Go-karts are not made or assembled, equally. That’s why safety should always be your primary concern. When selecting a go-kart to purchase, consider all key safety features: seat belts, whether or not the go-kart has a kill switch to the engine, and speed control.

Also, keep spare batteries and tires on hand in case the inevitable blowout or battery drain occurs. You’ll also need a safety kit if an accident happens when you’re out in terrain. Remember: safety is all about prevention.

Power

Speed depends on power. Therefore, check the cc level of your go kart engine, its torque, and whether it is a powered by a battery source or gasoline. Learn how to get the most out of your vehicle.

Passenger Load

Go-karts vary when considering passenger load. Most modern go karts can support a minimum of two hundred pounds, a little more than the weight of an average sized adult, whereas 2-seater vehicles can bear even more passenger burden.

Tires

Go kart tires balance speed and traction at the tire level. And all go-karts are not designed to be driven on the same surfaces. Offroad go karts can tackle rough terrain with tires built to grip. In contrast, go karts with plastic tires are slicker for drifting curbs and corners on asphalt or concrete. Other go-karts have hybrid tires that are better suited for grass and dirt.

Suspension

The overall relationship between tire suspension directly affects the traction of the vehicle when off-road which can determine speed, as well. Go-karts, depending on their design, can be ground-level and much faster in comparison to higher-suspension karts. Make sure to analyze the tire to suspension ratio if you are looking to go faster in your go kart.

Frame

Your go-kart build can also determine its speed. Steel framing provides superior safety and protection. However, aluminum framing is much lighter. Aluminum can also help to improve the overall speed of your go kart, plus enhance rider maneuverability.

Price

The adage in commerce applies to go-karts: You always get what you pay for. But you also do not want to break the bank. Keep in mind that there are many go-kart options across the price spectrum, and the best choice for you hinges on its affordability. I always check the price points when I am comparing go kart brands.

So get you a budget figured out first, then compare any go karts within that same range. This accountability can help you seek out a vehicle on a level you are comfortable with before you get too deep into the research process.

Skill Level

The fastest go-karts are also for the most experienced. Those with a high speed require a driver who can handle the acceleration during critical moments. If you are a beginner or have a moderate skill level, consider buying an entry level go kart that fits your skill level, one that is more comprehensive over responsive. You can always upgrade your go-kart in the future!

Ready. Set. Buy Your Go Kart!

Go karts are a big part of my life and some of the most fun I’ve ever had. These vehicles are durable, handy, and an excellent source of entertainment for all ages. As a parent or caregiver, I hope that my guide can help your buying process, and persuade you to one day own a go-kart for your child or yourself! Thank you for taking the time to write this informative article. I always appreciate unbiased opinions mixed with facts/specs.

Just beginning to become interested in go carts as an adult and was having difficulty finding direction. Obviously looking for the most bang for the buck.

I think a really great article subject would be the best “budget” go carts.
